The late 30’s and early 40’s was a period of intense left-wing activity in England and there was a concurrent upsurge in writing and publishing. Victor Gollancz’s Left Book Club was kept abreast of new writing and of socialist affairs by The Left News. This journal was a forum for leading socialist thinkers, including Harold Laski and John Strachey. It included Julius Braunthal’s International Socialist Forum and covered all aspects of the contemporary political field.
