The firm of Janson, Cobb, Person & Co. is believed to be the oldest surviving City of London solicitors. As such, the Archives provide a unique source of information which no researcher or student should be without. The firm has consistently been at the very centre of commercial life in the city, with many high-profile clients including the Royal Exchange Office, the Imperial Fire Office and the Barclay brothers (proprietors of what is now Barclays Bank). The Janson, Cobb, Person archives are particularly unusual and valuable in that they are the actual internal records of the firm and its activities on behalf of clients. No other extant solicitor records are so extensive.
